Traditional concrete retaining walls have the advantages of stable structure and small footprint, and are widely used in urban dikes. However, the wall on the water side is smooth and steep, which cannot provide living space for animals and plants, and is not conducive to the rescue of people who fall into the water by climbing ashore. The PERW of the present invention solves the problem that the traditional retaining wall is not ecological and is not conducive to climbing and self-rescue. When building a new retaining wall, the steep water-side wall is appropriately slowed down, and several rows of planting troughs are set on the wall for landscape greening, which can form a beautification of the ecological environment, facilitate the climbers to climb ashore, and provide animal living space, etc. Functional ecological retaining wall to promote the harmonious symbiosis of man and water. The built retaining wall can be implemented by anchoring the planting trough on the wall. Rainwater collection and utilization and solar automatic watering system can provide water and nutrients for planting trough plants.
PERW has a moderate cost and can be used wherever traditional retaining walls are applicable. PERW was selected and participated in the two China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fairs in 2018 and 2019, which received widespread attention. PERW was selected as the "Guidelines for the Promotion of Water Conservancy Science and Technology in Guangdong Province in 2020" and was included in the DB44/T2283-2021 "Eco-design Guidelines for Water Conservancy Projects". A large number of engineering applications show that PERW has significant economic, social and ecological benefits.
